Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are seperated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other teams court under organized rules, it has been apart of the offical program of the summer olympic games since 1964. The game always starts with a serve over the net, and the other side is behind the 10 10 foot line ready to get the ball. In volleyball the maximum hits per side is three and it is illegal to catch, hold, or throw the ball and the three types of hits are bump, set, and pass.
In volleyball points are scored every time the other team messes up, and a point is rewarded on every serve. Depending on the level of competition, most matches are now played as the best three out of five games to 25 points. The complete rules are extensive, but simply, play proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' \ by serving the ball.
